BrightSide Animal Center, formerly known as the Humane Society of Redmond, is an animal shelter located at 1355 NE Hemlock Ave, Redmond, OR 97756. The center has a rating of 3.6 and operates from 10AM to 5PM on most days. The shelter is committed to animal welfare and adoption services.
One of the recurring themes in the reviews is the lack of effective communication. Multiple reviewers mentioned that their calls and emails went unanswered. This has led to frustration among potential adopters and donors.
The adoption process has garnered mixed reviews. Some reviewers have praised the easy and straightforward process, while others have criticized it for being disorganized. There are mentions of holds being placed on animals that already had applications, leading to confusion and disappointment.
The center is situated in Redmond, Oregon, and is accessible to the local community. However, some reviewers have expressed reluctance to drive long distances only to find the center closed or unresponsive.
The lack of a responsive communication system has been pointed out as a barrier to accessibility. Reviewers suggest that simple technology solutions could improve this aspect.
The shelter is described as a "HIGH SAVE" facility, meaning it goes to great lengths to make animals adoptable. Post-adoption support, including dog training, is also available.
The facility itself has been described as clean and well-organized. Cats are allowed to roam freely, and dogs are well-cared for, according to some reviews.
The shelter relies heavily on community support and volunteers. It is not well-funded and counts on donations and community involvement for its operations.
Despite the criticisms, some reviewers still recommend the center, especially because it is a high-save, or no-kill, shelter. This indicates a level of trust in the center's mission and operations.

As much as I am very supportive in the means of saving animals and having such a place Brightside doing that, I feel that they need to get it together about answering their phone. I called 3 different days with no response. If you are a profitable or non profitable business you need to answer your phone. I think I have been patient about this. Simple technology can resolve this problem and that does mean leaving a message. I can not see myself driving 25 miles to find out that no one is not home. Hopefully this comment will be taken as constructive criticism and you can grow from it. I hate to find myself going to Bend.

Review Review
tl;dr They take holds on animals that already have applications filled out on them. So yes, "not first come, first served" more like "money matters". Just wanted to add to the other bad reviews on here. Filled out numerous apps and emails for last three days, called at 10:00am this morning to put a hold on a dog and had no answer/phone off hook. Called back at 10:23am to be told a hold was placed at 10:00am by someone without an application, and no previous filled out apps or emails for requesting holds mattered. Please go to a reputable breeder, they are so much better than these so called "shelters" or "rescues".

Those of you that are unfamiliar with BrightSide should know: a) It is filled with compassion and love for the animals b) It is not well funded and relies on the community to volunteer and contribute c) It is a HIGH SAVE shelter, which means every animal is given extensive support and help to make them adoptable. d) After animals are adopted, calls or emails are made to follow up to make sure the animal is fitting in well. e) For dogs that are having trouble adjusting, there is dog training support available at the shelter. Please support this wonderful organization and shelter animals in general.

I left two voicemails AND sent an email. Never heard from them! Went elsewhere. I will however, recommend this place because they are a kill shelter! If you are in a business environment, the key to success (an animal saved from death) is returning phone calls OR responding to an email!

We took our dog there with high hopes of her finding a new home. They lost her on a walk even though we told them not to take her on one because she would spook and slip out of her halter. Now she has been missing for a month or so.
