After our first day in Las Vegas and visiting the Hoover Dam we slept in the Lake Mead National Area. Beautiful Camp in a green oasis on the hills with a great view of the lake. The sunrise and sunset were breathtaking. We loved it and would sleep there again at any time.

Lake Mead & Hoover Dam are a must see if you visit Las Vegas or are nearby. Having grown up in Las Vegas, I vividly recall the water flowing over the spillway because the lake was so full. To see how low the lake has become is a stark reminder that water is a precious resource and in the desert its even more so. The dam tour is interesting and informative. The hard work, dedication, ingenuity, and sacrifices made to build that massive concrete dam is a reminder of how great America is and how this nation can pull together despite hardships.

Beautiful views, but the last few years to privatize everything in the States what is worth to do with money. Not even the banks of a lake, you can visit more without having to pay a disproportionately high price, therefore only 3 stars.

The blue waters of Lake Mead form the enchanting backdrop of this recreation area. There are cruises that are operated in the lake every day. which includes a journey to the wall of Hoover dam in a big paddle operated boat. This cruise opens up views that are not visible from the roadways and from the top of the dam. There is a dinner cruise in case you are interested in spending a relaxed evening in the calm waters of the lake. Apart from the cruise tickets there is an entry fee to use the recreation area

Love everything about Lake Mead, except the people who visit. PICK UP YOUR TRASH. THIS IS NOT YOUR HOUSE, OR YOUR MOMS HOUSE, OR THE DUMP. IF YOU BRING IN SOMETHING THAT WILL NEED TO BE THROWN AWAY, THEN TAKE IT BACK OUT AND THROW IT AWAY. ITS DISGUSTING AND ENDANGERING THE LAKE AND ALL THE ANIMALS THAT LIVE IN AND AROUND IT. Here is a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. Throughout the year you can catch fish, perch, catfish, carp, and bream, trout. In September to March each year can also use the network to the network of small bream, used as bait to catch big bass is the best bait.

Beautiful views!! Great location to spend a hot summer day! Water is ice cold. Offer boat rentals @ reasonable rates. You can travel an hour (ish) by boat to just underneath the hoover dam. The cliffs surrounding the colorado river are absolutely godsmaking. Lots of neat little places to pull your boat over and get out and hike around. Several small hidden waterfalls.

One of many stones in the crown of jewels of the National Park Service Lake Mead NRA has plenty to see and do. Gets a 4 due to entrance fee and additional cost for boating. Great place to run, bike or walk on River Mountain Loop trail or Historic Tunnel Trail. Red Rock picnic area has shaded picnic tables and a great place to explore and relax with family.

Fantastic lake for swimming! I was lucky to have participated in the last Slam the Dam Open Water swim event (featuring a 1.2 mile, 2.4 mile, and 8 kilometer swim), which was held in October of 2012. The following year the event was cancelled due to National Park Service budget cutbacks. Hopefully, this great event can be held again in the near future!

So much to do here. The skyward is a big attraction. South Shore at Lake mead for boating & canoes. A stop to gaze at the Colorado River is a must. There is a small town within the national park and a great basic place to stay is South Cover Motel & RV park which is off Pierce Ferry Road. Great Hiking trails and the Jousha tress are anazing.

$20 entry fee for 6 days. There is plenty of things to do in, on, or around Lake Mead. Plenty of rental facilities nearby for boats or jet skis. The Hoover Dam is here and it is unbelievably inspiring. Excellent hiking trails as well. Keep in mind that it is in the middle of the desert so bringing ample water is always a good idea.

The toughest part of recreating around Lake Mead is the lack of amenities. Trails may just start from unmarked dirt parking lots, and other areas far away from the nearest water source. The Lake is pretty popular, but there are lots of cool hikes and overlooking areas on all sides. Always bring extra water!

Hoover dam and Lake Mead are definitely worth visiting as a day trip. Get there early and fork out the $ for the full tour. Walk across the top of the dam and check out the beautiful art deco architecture. The lake was quite low when I visited and this resulted in some spectacular colour contrasts.

Power and size are amazing. It is better to go in the winter, summer, well, very hot and there is no shade. Hat and water are required !!!

Not enough shades. It needs little private spaces with SHADES to avoid the super hard sun of the summer to share just with your friends and/or family instead of big common areas. Plus, we were looking for fun experiences like jet ski rental, but it only has two of them, forget it!

Lots of opportunities for boaters, hikers and wild life viewing - the lake attracts a ton of local wildlife and migratory birds which change depending on the season. The recreation area is huge and provides a ton of trials and both primitive and improved camping.

Beautiful water getaway for desert folks who are tired of the heat. Strongly suggest kayaking if able to. But be sure to WEAR A LIFEJACKET!!!!!! no matter how great of a swimmer you are. This is the most dangerous national park for a reason: drownings. Be safe!

We woke up to a gorgeous view of Lake Mead every morning right out our window. All of the facilities we clean and in good repair and the staff were so friendly and helpful. It 6 miles from Hoover Dam and 40 minutes from the Las Vegas strip. We have a great time!

Our boat got stuck in an unmarked rock mountain in the middle of the lake causing fiberglass damage and also causing everyone to exit the boat and one passenger was cut along his calf by a sharp piece of metal also protruding from the unmarked rock mountain

Small oasis with river access (Willow Beach) located 3.9 miles from the main highway. Rocky shores with a few picnic tables available to those lucky enough to get their early. Recommend a visit to the fish hatchery at the end of the road at Willow Beach.

The Hoover Dam - One of the mighty engineering marvels of the world is in this area. Many tours are offered, restaurant, restrooms, shops, covered parking, museum and wear sunscreen, it was an intense 115 degrees. Historic, educational and Spectacular!

Worth the stop if you have the time. We walked the bridge and dam. We have taken the tour of the dam and marvel at the engineering and hard work of the construction crews. BRING YOUR OWN WATER! Purchasing cold water at the cafe will cost you $$$$.

I flew over this area a couple of times. It really looks gorgeous. The contrast of the desert with such an amazing star edge shaped lake is amazing. Actually you can see the whole area with the Hover dam as well and looks awesome in a sunny day.

I loved staying at Lake Mead for a couple of days. I will say that access to the actual lake is not particularly easy, but the camping areas are lovely and everyone I interacted with was helpful and courteous. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Easy parking. Tours are super and is a fine place to visit. We lucked out and went early, had moderately hot weather and one of party was handicapped. She had no problem on the power plant tour. Just go early to beat the crowds and heat!

Had a great time at Lake Mead and the Hoover dam. We took the full tour of the Hoover dam and enjoyed it. Very impressive. Tour did seem a bit short and it would be nice if they visited more than just 4 areas over the course of an hour.

The lake itself is alright. However, you can enjoy various water activities and fish feeding during summer time with your family or friends. Unclear sign which is hard to meet up with or find people. $10 per vehicle valid for 7 days.

We have rented a pontoon boat every year for the last 6 years here to have a day on the lake. Every year is better than the last. Beautiful scenery, great times! Pay attention to the weather and make sure to drink plenty of water!

Partial view of lake Mead, wide open view of the night stars. These are tight spots, but we each get a picnic table and only a 5 min drive to the rocky beach (which is mandatory in this heat!!) And like 10 min to Hoover dam.

We went to Hoover dam and it was nice to see. Go early! We arrived a little after 9am with no line and plenty of parking then left around 1030 and the line of cars coming in was pretty long on a Tuesday!

I visited lake mead whike vacationing with my brother. We ate at the resturaunt. Bathroom line was long. Wait for our food was long although there was no one waiting on food. It was just two table orders.

The water level continues to fall but the lake still seems nice and clean, HUGE, and enjoyable. We camped at echo bay campground, which is now about a mile from the shore due to receding water levels.

Very, very, Hot in the summer months, Temperatures get around 115°. Very busy around holidays and summer vacation. Nice place for relaxing. Casino, stores and restaurants about 20 minutes away.

We love going to the lake, having breakfast or lunch and going Sailing. So beautiful! Many people go down to the dock to feed the fish and the ducks while having a cocktail and enjoying the view.
