My name is David Zuleger.. I have been a client at the City Union mission for almost a month. I even volunteered Mon-fri. 7-11:30am.There is slot of favoritism going on regularly. I even recently worked for a staff member named Willie...That staff member never paid me as promised violating labor laws by not paying me minimum wage!! This is so outrageous as I am disabled and the staff member I worked for just bought his wife a brand new house and she drives about a $40,000-$50,000 car!!! I am going to love taking this to the local news.Christians dont do this kind of thing. Willie never told me that I had to wait a week for him to pay me for 6 hours worth of work until the last minute! He even pushed me to work harder when it got dark and i could not see because I am legally blind!!! I want to see this employee fired if he does not pay me by Tuesday October11th. Or I may file a lawsuit against him and his employer! Their is no excuse not to pay me. None whatsoever.

This place is trash some people may think that they care about you but in reality the place is for homeless people who are not willing to help themselves reach new heights. Case managers are not always the resourceful, the food that they serve is extremely plain and has no real flavor whatsoever and if anything they do not support any major causes of property thieft people will still ur stuff when ur not looking so keep ur guard up and do not hesitate to sleep at City Union Mission the place forces you change out of your street clothes into night shirts and they have bed bugs crawling on you when ur asleep so good luck trying to get some shut eye you are only making maters much worst for yourself if anything I would recommend Kansas City Rescue Mission that place is a blessing just know that they have rules too and they are a lot more strict about certain things.

Visited the thrift store on 4/18/2015 looking for bookcases but instead I found a nice table and chair set when I asked the staff about it they were extremely RUDE! When I inquired about when the item would be on their rotating markdown I was told maybe two weeks by the female cashier and then she said on Wednesday 4/22/2015 was earth day sale and everything would be 50% off at 9 am all day, On Wednesday to my astonishment 9 am was not their open time and the table set had a sale tag on it from the prior day and a sales price of 50% off. WOW wonder how that could happen. Well I hope that who ever got it must have needed it much more than waiting like the rest of us. As such I will never donate time or money or recommend any one else do either. wish I could give them 0 stars. Clean up the attitudes and sales practice of this staff to earn my respect.

I spent nearly a month there and it was quite the eye opening experience. The staff is lazy and rude, extremely racist towards whites and Native Americans, all food is donated, but generally months old and spoiled. Your personal belongings are sifted through---I myself lost medicine and important paperwork to one of their staff thieves. There is gang activity both inside and outside of the mission, and their version of Christianity is skewed at best. I seem several clients robbed and bullied. In just under 20 days there, there were 3 shootings outside of the place and their health care services are flimsy at best. They are a poor excuse of a mission.

“…We are a Christian, faith-based organization that really does adhere to biblical standards." says Dan Doty but this is simply not true. They preach against theft yet do little to nothing to stop it happening in the shelter. They preach against lying yet the staff lie all the time. Rules are selectively enforced. They will say something is happening at a certain time but it will happen at a different time.

Fantastic ministry with good, solid Biblical values! So many great programs such as Christian Life Program, New Life Program, New Beginnings Covenant and a great Youth Department! Also a great Camp ministry in CUMCITO! Kids get to go to Camp for basically free ($5 for each kid that is income qualified) and great follow up on them as well!

While growing up in Smithville, MO I often heard about the ministry that was being provided by City Union Mission. They are a caring organization who truly wants the best for those they serve. They share the love of Jesus and provide food, stability, and housing to those in transition.

I just recently toured this mission and I was very impressed with the staff. It is obvious they care about the people they serve! So thankful that the homeless of Kansas City have a place to go when even some of their own families have turned their backs. A++

Really enjoyed serving the men with a sermon there. Have your directions handy--lots of one ways and I found myself lost and probably not in the greatest of neighborhoods at night. Their mission is amazing and the work they do is so important!

One thing about those who serve at the mission is that they truly love the people they serve. Christ has gifted each staff member with a heart for the poor and homeless, and you can see it in their continued commitment, day in and day out.

Great organization for helping people in a time of need. Helpful if you need a little extra help to get off the street. I volunteer here to do medical visits. Sometimes the rules are strict, so be sure to be on good behavior.

I have been blessed to serve the many homeless men in our community here. I pray that this extremely important resource in our community will always be there for those who are in a place of homelessness.

The health department found spoiled food, mice and mold growing on the walls of a warehouse that stores food for the Kansas City homeless.
