Unbelievable... I understand that rules are rules and they are not meant to be broken. Last month I seen this lady with a kid probably 3 to 4 months old and her daughter standing in line in the heat. And she was there for a good hour or so. This was my first time ever coming to the Houston Food bank and she had been there at the 4th spot all that time waiting while everyone else just kept coming in. Suddenly the staff from the food bank started handing us numbers fir a lottery of what order they would go in. I could see in her face, that after she had been there forever she got pushed back. Anyhow to make the story short and the case worst. When I was inside with my kid, I seen her in there as well. They were asking here to leave because she had been there a few days sooner than they allowed in regulation to return for the monthly groceries. She was there as I over heard 5 days earlier and they only allow 3 days early from tge day you come in the previous month. This lady told the supervisor that when she had signed up for the food bank, she was not told the dates that she would be allowed to return in a monthly basis. You could literately see this ladys tears and frustration after being out there in the scorching sun with her kids for well over an hour and then been turned away. In my opinion after seeing this, I felt indignified that a place supposed to help someone in need could not make a simple 1 time exception in part for a mistake they had done. Also this kind of lottery seems very unfair to all who have been waiting there under the sun for so long, so someone can come and just get a lower number and go in ahead of those waiting for an hr or so. They should revise the way they do things there. Some of us do need this help but after seeing this I am not sure of ever returning to the Houston Food Bank.

Houston Food Bank is a great organization and an even better way to give back. You can volunteer alone or with a group. Groups are encouraged to pre-register and bring their volunteer passes, this ensures that your group can work in the same area if need be. There are also people on hand to walk you through the process should you just want to show up and vounteer as there are tons of things to do to help! Parking is in the front with overflow parking in the back. No open toe shoes, sleeveless shirts, outside food and beverage, bags/purses. There is a concession stand on site as well as vending machines and water fountains.

You do a wonderful service and we appreciate that greatly. But and there is a but or issue rather. You are short in that you only provide limited assistance to no employment or history of one. Mostly you choose what is available for them. Myself being a student in areas of social services I find this Deming and uncalled for. I implore you to reconsider your stance. Thank you
